2D & 3D Monster Project

Image
Description of Project:  For this project, we got to learn about 2D and 3D shapes. We also learned about how to create different paper techniques. This was such a fun and engaging project that got the students to be creative with their work. The teachers challenged us by making sure we used at least 2 warm colors and 2 cool colors in the project. They also had us add at least 2 different paper techniques that we learned from the lesson onto our monsters.  Overall, this project was fun, engaging, and allowed us to show our creativeness.  Extension Activity:  To extend onto this project, we could do a writing exercise that makes up a story including the monsters the students created. I would have the students type up their stories and then attach them to the back of their monsters. This would allow the students to expand on their creative monsters and help them remember this fun activity that deals with 2D & 3D shapes, paper techniques, warm and cool colors,...

Clay Project

Image
Activity Description:  For this project, we got to learn how to make a clay monster. First, we did a pre-assessment to brainstorm our idea before we started working. On the pre-assessment it had us list 3 cool colors and 3 warm colors, draw three different lines, make some X's and draw an idea of how we would like our monster to look like. Once we were done with the pre-assessment, the teachers taught us how to prepare the clay and create our clay monsters. They gave us the expectations that we needed to have 3 subtractives and 3 additives on our project. We got taught how to use certain clay tools to create our monsters. Creating the monsters were so much fun and then we got to paint them to make them look real. We had to at least have one warm color and one cool color painted on our monsters. Once we were all finished with our clay monsters we wrote on a piece of paper the name of the monster, where it lives, and a fun fact.  Activity Extention Idea:  An idea of ...

Stained Glass Art Craft

Image
Activity Description:   For this project, we learned how to make stained glass art. First, we learned about stained glass and how it is made, and its history. Then we went into creating the stained glass art project. We got to choose the subject we wanted to trace and then used a black sharpie and traced it onto acetate paper. Once we got our template drawn, we used sharpies to color in the template. We had to choose to either use warm or cool colors and at least 3. I choose to have the subject in warm colors and the background is in cool colors. The background is then created using geometric shapes and then coloring those in using the cool colors I chose. Once we were all done with coloring in our stained glass we got to use puffy paint to retrace the subject. This is used to represent the framework in actual stained glass work. Our projects then had to be left alone for the puff paint to dry.  Activity Extention:    If there was more time to do this project,...

Printmaking

Image
Project Description: For this project, we learned about printmaking and the elements of design. We first got two pieces of plane white paper that was cut into squares and we had to practice making a line design on them. Once we were complete with that task we compared the two designs we made and chose the one we wanted to use to make the project. The teacher passed out the foam squares we had to trace our designs onto to make the print. We made sure to use a #2 pencil as that works best. Then the teacher taught us how to create the print design using ink and a roller. We got to choose the colored squares we put the prints on and if we wanted to use black or white ink. I decided to use both black and white ink to be able to see the difference and I made a pattern out of it.  Extension Activity:  This activity was so much fun. While making my print, I thought my prink looked like zebra print. So I had the idea of an extension activity for the students to choose an animal ...

Mosaic Rainforest Art

Image
Activity Description:    In this activity, we learned about rainforest animals and what Mosaic art is. We got to choose our rainforest animal out of the options they had. I choose to do a flamingo and we had to include at least three different colors of cut-out paper in our project and fill the whole page. Once I choose what colors I wanted to include in my piece, then I used glue and a toothpick to spread the glue where I needed it. I then would place the pieces down onto the glue.  Extension Activity: This was a fun art project to do. If I would do this in my classroom I would make sure to tell my students to make sure to have different colors in the background compared to the subject of the piece. I wish I would have done this in my project as it was hard to see my flamingo once I was done. To fix this problem, I went around the subject of my art piece with a black sharpie to help it not blend into the background.

Vincent Van Gogh Painting Project

Image
Project Description:        For this project, we got to learn about Vincent Van Gogh and how he created his artwork. We got two pieces of white paper (one big one to paint on, one small one to write on). First, we looked at some of Vincent Van Gogh's art pieces, and then we got to choose one to go off of for our project. I went off of the sunflower piece he created that was called  Tournesols which is sunflowers in french. We drew our ideas onto our piece of paper and once we were done, we started adding paint. We got taught to use a fork to make lines in our paintings replicating Vincent Van Gogh's work. I figured out quickly that the paint dries fast so you have to do the project in sections to create the lines with the fork. Once we were all finished with our paintings, we then answered two post questions they had on the board and wrote them down on our small piece of paper with our names on it.  Project Extention Idea:      An exte...

Drawing Lesson: Warm and Cool Color Hands

Image
Activity Description: For this activity, we learned about warm and cool colors and how to blend oil pastels. We started off by doing a pre-assessment in the packet they gave us by listing 3 cool colors and 3 warm colors. Then we practiced creating a squiggly line and going over it with a sharpie. We got to practice tracing one hand on the packet. Once we were complete with practicing, we took the white construction paper and traced both of our hands onto it with a pencil. We then traced it with a sharpie and put our warm and cool colors onto our hands in a pattern. Once we had the warm and cool colored oil pastels on our hands we used a paper towel to blend the colors together to make sure there were no white spots in our created hands. We then cut out our two hands and glued them onto a black piece of construction paper soo they stood out. While that was drying, we got to do a stretch art letter and I chose to do K for Kindness. We were told to include 3 different designs on ou...
