Activity Description: For this activity, we learned about warm and cool colors and how to blend oil pastels. We started off by doing a pre-assessment in the packet they gave us by listing 3 cool colors and 3 warm colors. Then we practiced creating a squiggly line and going over it with a sharpie. We got to practice tracing one hand on the packet. Once we were complete with practicing, we took the white construction paper and traced both of our hands onto it with a pencil. We then traced it with a sharpie and put our warm and cool colors onto our hands in a pattern. Once we had the warm and cool colored oil pastels on our hands we used a paper towel to blend the colors together to make sure there were no white spots in our created hands. We then cut out our two hands and glued them onto a black piece of construction paper soo they stood out. While that was drying, we got to do a stretch art letter and I chose to do K for Kindness. We were told to include 3 different designs on our letter and then put the sticker onto our black construction paper as well. Once we were done with that we got a piece of white paper to include the rest of our words letter and then another piece of paper to list three things of what that word meant to us. This was such a fun unique activity and I would love to do this activity in my future classroom.
Extension Activity: If I did this activity in my classroom, I would incorporate teaching the children what kindness is and what acts of kindness are. This could be included in a language arts lesson, after reading a book that deals with kindness.
